The goal of this project is to express my opinion through design.

Summarize the 2 Chosen Essays:

“The Crystal Goblet” by Beatrice Warde
•Typography should be invisible and not distract from content.
•Good typography enhances readability without stealing the show.

“Fuck Content” by Michael Rock
•Designers should be bold and creative, even if it challenges content.

My Opinion On Good Typesetting

I believe that design and typesetting play a crucial role in creating effective communication. In my opinion, the most effective design approach is one that complements the content without overpowering it. A visually appealing and unique design can capture the audience's attention, but it should also make the content more accessible and understandable. The balance between aesthetics and functionality is key to creating an effective design.

Typesetting should be considered an essential part of the design process, not a separate entity. Good typesetting can enhance the readability of the content, while also making it visually engaging. Design and typesetting should aim to create a memorable visual experience that serves the content and the audience.

Font Choice

I've decided to go with Garamond. It is a classic, elegant, and highly legible serif typeface, which makes it suitable for both body text and headings.

Front Cover Design

To emphasize my opinion, the front cover page was designed with "The Crystal Goblet" in a larger font, symbolizing its dominance over "Fuck Content". Additionally, adjustments were made to the title of "Fuck Content" to further highlight my perspective.

Content Layout

The booklet's content layout featured divided pages with two columns of varying widths. The left column was dedicated to Michael Rock's essay titled "Fuck Content," which expresses views that I personally disagree with. On the other hand, the larger right column was reserved for "The Crystal Goblet," the essay that aligns with my own perspective.

To visually emphasize my preference, I opted for a larger and bold typeface for the essay I agree with, while selecting a smaller and less prominent typeface for the essay I disagree with.

I kept the same font for both essays to maintain consistency, but use different font sizes and weights to create contrast (In this case I used 12pt semibold for the essay I agree with and 10pt regular for the essay I disagree with).

Author Page

I've also included 2 pages talking about the two authors. I have one for Beatrice Warde where I include a short bio and her other work. The page for Michael Rock is a little different...Again to emphasize my viewpoint.
